MANILA, Jan. 6 – Police on Wednesday said alert security personnel foiled a plan to blow up the Sta. Cruz Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Supt. Marvin Saro, Sta. Cruz police chief, said security personnel discovered an improvised bomb before it could explode inside one of the court offices at dawn Wednesday. Court proceedings for the day were immediately suspended.

The improvised bomb was placed inside a small red box.

Saro said the bomb’s triggering device – a cellular phone – and a lighter fluid were left by still unidentified suspects inside the clerk’s office.

Initial investigation showed that the duty security guards discovered smoke coming from the clerk’s office at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

When they entered the office, the red box was starting to burn. They put it off and soon noticed what looked like an improvised bomb. They set aside the box until bomb experts arrived.

Saro said investigators are now finding out who planted the bomb. (PNA) RMA/JCA
