VIGAN CITY, Jan. 1 — The Vigan City government headed by Mayor Eva Marie Singson–Medina sponsored the mass wedding of 125 pairs of couples in a ceremony held at St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral on Wednesday.

The mass wedding is an annual tradition in Vigan, sponsored by the city government every December in order to legalize unions of men and women, some of whom were already living in and have children.

“We are conducting this mass wedding annually to give a chance to those unwed couples in our city to receive the sacrament of marriage,” Medina said.

“We usually hold this activity during Christmas and New Year as a gift of the city government to unwed couples,” she added.

According to Mayor Medina, all expenses in the wedding ceremony and the reception party were shouldered by the city government.

"All incumbent city officials also acted as primary sponsors in the mass wedding,” she added. (PNA)
