MANILA, Jan. 1 — Muntinlupa City Mayor Aldrin San Pedro warned company owners and residents to be wary of a syndicate that has victimized several companies in the city during the Christmas season using his name to ask for financial donations.

San Pedro said as a modus operandi, a member of the syndicate will call a company pretending he is the mayor. The caller, using the mayor’s name, would then ask for financial donation and ask the company to deposit it to a bogus Western Union account.

“I am warning companies not to fall prey to this evil scheme. The syndicate is using my name and the city government to victimize companies in Muntinlupa,” the mayor said.

The warning came after several companies called the city government to verify. The companies told the city government that they got calls from persons who identified themselves as the mayor and asked for financial donation.

The companies told the city government that the caller asked for money purportedly for patients.

Some companies fell prey to the scheme and deposited money to the Western Union account while many called the city government to verify after receiving the calls.

San Pedro already launched an investigation and ordered the police to arrest the members of the syndicate.

“I want them jailed immediately. We will not let them victimize more companies,” he said. (PNA)
