MANILA, Jan. 1 — Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay on Friday said he wanted the residents to welcome the New Year with hope in their hearts and a solemn prayer to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

“The year 2009 was marked by turmoil and grief, yet it was also the year when we showed our best as a people. We rose above the turmoil, we overcame the grief, we shared what we had with the less fortunate, and gave all we can to help rebuild lives and communities,” Binay said in a one-page press statement.

He said there is much reason to hope in 2010.

“The New Year provides us with the opportunity to commit ourselves not only to bettering our lives, but in helping build a nation for our children,” Binay’s New Year message said. (PNA)
