LONDON, Oct. 2 — The London stock market fell nearly 1.7 percent in closing on Thursday, hit by falls to mining stocks and concerns about the slow pace of the U.S. economic recovery.

The FTSE 100 index was down 86.09 points, or 1.68 percent, to 5, 047.81.

Mining stocks declined due to falls in global metal prices. Lonmin was the biggest faller, dropping 8 percent. It was followed by Xstrata, down 5.5 percent.

The falls mirrored early declines on Wall Street after the latest U.S. economic data disappointed. (PNA/Xinhua)
