Negros LGUs prepare more aid for Ondoy victims

BACOLOD CITY, Sept. 30 — Supports for victims of tropical storm Ondoy are pouring in from Negros Occidental.

The latest is from the Confederation of Sugar Producers’ Associations, Inc. (CONFED), which already tasked its members nationwide to gather donations.

CONFED National President Federico Locsin III coordinated with the office of Senator Juan Miguel “MIGZ” Zubiri to give assistance to thousands of families affected by the onslaught of Ondoy.

CONFED Trustee Bernardo Trebol secured 1,000 Lkg bags (50 kilo bags) of sugar from various sugar mills to send to Metro Manila as part of their initial support.

The Silay City Government will launch “Operation Bulig Sang Silaynon” under the Office of Mayor Jose L. Montelibano.

This will be headed by the City Department of Social Welfare and Development in coordination with the city’s Community Affairs Division and the Red Cross-Silay.

Other groups to help the group are Silay Federation of Market Vendor’s Association, Parish of San Diego, Dept. of Education, Kansilay Lions’ Club, Rotary Club of Silay, Planters’ Group and Liga Ng Mga Barangay.

Mayor Jose Montelibano said that the task force is accepting financial assistance, prime commodities, and used clothing in three drop off points – Civic Center (Tourism Office), City Hall lobby, and DSWD Office.

Meanwhile, the joint undertaking of the Bacolod City government, the private sector, and other groups in the city billed as ‘Bulig sang Bacolod’ has started receiving donations here.

The ‘Bulig sang Bacolod’ accepts donations from 8 am to 5 pm at the old City Hall in the downtown area. Cash donations may be deposited with the City Treasurer’s Office, at the ground floor of the New Government Center.
