Fishing vessel catches fire off Calavite passage, PCG says

MANILA, Sept. 17 — A fishing vessel caught fire around the vicinity of Calavite passage on Wednesday night, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Thursday.

Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, PCG commandant, said fishing vessel "Jacklyn", owned by Poseidon Shipping with 400 GT caught fire at 9:15 p.m.

Initial reports received by the Coast Guard Action Center Manila revealed that Coast Guard Detachment Calatagan received text message at around 8:53 p.m. from Police Inspector Manalo, PNP Commander of Lubang Island, regarding the fire incident.

Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog personnel contacted Carlos Remolino, Liaison of Poseidon Shipping, informing the latter that the said fishing vessel encountered minor fire while enroute from Manila to Palawan.

The fire was declared under control after 20 minutes by the crew of the said fishing vessel using a fire extinguisher. All crewmembers onboard were safe and continued their voyage towards Palawan. (PNA)
