MANILA, June 9 — The Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) sentenced today to life imprisonment a couple who operated a multimillion-peso shabu "tiangge" in that city three years ago.

Convicted in a decision handed down by Judge Abraham Borreta were Imam Amin Boratong and his common-law-wife Sheryl Molera.

The duo were likewise ordered to pay P10 million and P2 million for possession of illegal drugs and operating a drug den, respectively.

Both were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of maintaining the shabu den in Sitio Mapayapa, Barangay Sto. Tomas, Pasig City, which was raided in February 2006.

The couple, who eluded arrest during the raid, were collared by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents nine months later in their condominium hideout in Makati City.

The guilty verdict came after Boratong's half-brother Samer Palao testified on the former's massive drug operations in Manila, Quezon City, Taguig City and the provinces of Cavite, Bulacan and Cebu and as far as the cities of Digos and Marawi in Mindanao. (PNA)
