Italian Ambassador turns over assistance to Typhoon Frank victims

ILOILO CITY, July 6 -– Italian Ambassador Rubens Anna Fedele will turn over the Italian Development Cooperation assistance to the 9 local government units (LGUs) in Iloilo province hit by Typhoon Frank in June 21, 2008 Monday afternoon.

The Italian ambassador will turn over the first phase of its nutrition program for the province to Iloilo Gov. Niel D. Tupas Sr. during a ceremony to be held at the Iloilo capitol building.

The LGU recipients of the bakery equipment are Leganes, Pavia, Alimodian, Leon, Janiuay, Lambunao, Anilao, San Enrique and Carles.

The bakery equipment has a total cost of P3.5 million. The LGU beneficiary will get bakery equipment worth P300,000 each. This will be used to produce low cost but nutritious bread for students in public schools. It will also be used to train out-of-school youth become productive and augment the family’s income.

The Italian government through the Italian Development Cooperation has also identified two LGUs for its shelter assistance in Iloilo province. They are Janiuay that will receive 30 housing units and Lambunao that will be recipient of 70 units. Each housing unit costs P90,000 each or a total of P9-million.

The construction of housing units will start soon and be completed on December 2009. (PNA)
