FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga, May 26 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will inspect on Wednesday (May 27) two infrastructure projects in Barangay San Ramon here that are expected to increase the income and promote the welfare of farmers in the barangay including indigenous peoples displaced by the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991.

The two projects are the Kalayaang Barangay farm-to-market road and the proposed bridge across the Gumain River.

The President will inspect the ongoing concreting of the one-kilometer Kalayaang Barangay farm-to-market road and the recently completed 850-meter Kalayaang Barangay road, both in Barangay San Ramon.

The one-kilometer farm-to-market road is being constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), while the 850—meter Kalayaang Barangay road was built by the 355th Aviation Engineering Wing of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

The President will be accompanied by Floridablanca Mayor Eduardo Guerrero, Barangay San Ramon Chairman Gonzalo Capulong and 355th Aviation Engineering Wing under Commander Pedro Rieza Jr.

The DPWH has already concreted 300 meters and graveled 700 meters of the P5-million farm-to-market road.

On the other hand, the AFP completed the concreting of the 850-meter Kalayaang Barangay road last July.

After the road inspection, the President will proceed to the barangay court where participating government agencies are scheduled to conduct livelihood seminars on crafts-making, banana chips-making and cassava cake.

Capulong said the road projects and livelihood trainings and the President’s visit will surely benefit his 2,400 constituents and the Aetas in neighboring barangays.

From San Ramon, the President will inspect the proposed P220-million Apalit-Pabanlag Bridge project in Barangay Apalit to be constructed under the President’s Bridge Program.

Mayor Guerrero said the proposed 400-meter span across the Gumain River is expected to benefit up to 11 neighboring barangays.

The President has also ordered the rehabilitation of the Porac-Gumain River Irrigation System and the dredging of the Porac-Gumain river to increase the irrigated service area and the water-holding capacity of the water system. The project is expected to be completed in 2010. (PNA)
