ILOILO CITY, April 22 -– Local officials and residents of the municipality of Valderrama in Antique are now ready for the visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Thursday, during which she is slated to distribute certificates of house occupancy and cash grants to their identified beneficiaries.

Valderrama Mayor Mary Joyce Roquero said there has been a change in the venue of activities from Barangay Borocboroc to the Valderrama Central Elementary School at the town proper.

Barangay Borocboroc is only about five kilometers away from the town proper, but reaching the barangay proper entails crossing a river whose water level usually rises during heavy rains.

Mayor Roquero said that to ensure a smooth program of activities during the President's visit, they found it best to transfer the venue from Barangay Borocboroc to the Valderrama Central Elementary School.

Meantime, President Arroyo will be assisted by Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Esperanza Cabral in turning over the certificates of occupancy to 89 beneficiaries of the DSWD Core Shelter Project.

The project is situated in Barangay Borocboroc, but the houses have been built in an area that is surrounded by mountains.

The 89 family beneficiaries were originally situated at the barangay proper. However, their houses were totally washed out by floods when typhoon "Frank" hit Panay Island last year.

“It’s very safe because it was validated by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB),” Mayor Roquero said, referring to the relocation site that was purchased jointly by the municipal government and the office of Representative Exequiel Javier.

In addition to the certificates of house occupancy, President Arroyo and Secretary Cabral will also distribute cash grants to 622 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) from Barangays Borocboroc, Bunsod, Cansilayan, Lublob, Manlacbo and Pandanan.

Roquero said that the President's visit Thursday is not her first to this town.

She said the President also set foot in their municipality some years ago upon the local government’s invitation for the turnover of a project.

“We are very happy with the visit. We love the President and this also shows that she loves the people of Valderrama,” Roquero said.

Valderrama is a fourth-class municipality with a population of 17,874 scattered in its 22 barangays. (PNA)
