Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala (in top left photo) calls on farmers, fishers, and other agriculture stakeholders in the Cagayan Valley region to come together and work with local government officials to achieve self-sufficiency in rice, corn and other basic food items, and make these affordable to all Filipino families. Alcala made the call in Tuguegarao City during the first leg of his three-day visit to the region, highlighting the farmersí congresses in Cagayan, Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya. Fire at Agham Road in Barangay San Roque, QC

Victims of the fire that razed about 30 houses along Agham Road in Barangay San Roque, Quezon City search for whatever was left of their belongings after the blaze on Wednesday morning (Sept. 1, 2010). The fire started at around 6:30 a.m. and destroyed approximately P2.5 million worth of property, according to arson investigators SFO2 Fortunato Aldre and SFO2 Renato Gallego. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) launch the commemorative stamps depicting the 25th anniversary of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer. This happened after the DENR-Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-Philippine Ozone Desk (POD) signed a Memorandum of Agreement on Wednesday (Sept. 1, 2010) with the PhilPost headed by Postmaster General Hector Villanueva (2nd from right) for the printing of around 49,000 stamps set to be issued in the fourth quarter of this year. Other signatories are EMB Director Juan Miguel ‘Mitch’ Cuna (extreme right), Dr. Maya Villaluz (extreme left) of World Bank, and DENR Assistant Secretary Analiza Rebuelta-Teh.
