SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique, June 17 –- The province of Antique at present has a buffer stock good for 14 days, National Food Authority Antique General Manager Oliver L. Cambas said.

Cambas said this to give assurance to Antiquenos since most farmers are only able to start their planting for first cropping this June, which is about a month late, because of the lack of water in the irrigation due to the El Niño phenomenon.

He said the NFA Antique inventory right now is at 14,159 bags of rice. If the rice inventory with commercial traders and households will be included, the total is at 66,037 bags of rice and palay.

The daily rice consumption of Antiquenos is computed at 4,800 bags per day.

“We have more than enough rice supply,” the NFA official said. He added that Antique is really a rice surplus province, having 42,154.34 total hectares of rice producing lands. (PNA)
