MANILA, May 9 (PNA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday denied reports that some vote counting machines (VCMs) were found at the Novotel Manila in Quezon City.

Comelec Chairman Juan Andres Bautista said they were not able to find any VCMs in the rooms where personnel of Smartmatic International, were supposedly occupying.

“We were not able to find any VCMs in that room occupied by the Smartmatic people as well as in the adjacent vacant rooms,” said the poll body chief, who personally went to the hotel located in Araneta Center in Quezon City.

The visit stemmed from reports, which alleged that several VCM units were spotted in the hotel.

With this, Bautista urged the public, including members of the media, to be more cautious in making reports of alleged irregularities.

“Let us not quickly give reports without any evidence or proof because a lot of essential time is being wasted,” he said.

The information was allegedly relayed by a staff of the hotel to the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and disclosed by its Chairperson, Henrietta De Villa.

Meanwhile, Vice Presidential candidate Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is closely watching the conduct of elections through his own "Quick-Count" centre in his campaign headquarters in Mandaluyong.

The monitoring centre located at the building’s fourth floor will enable him and his team to closely monitor the elections and the election results.

“We have our own internal "quick-count" para mabilis ang aming nakikitang resulta at para talagang mabilis din ang pagkumpara sa Comelec official results,” he said.

Lawyer Amor Amerada, head of the BBM for VP "Quick-Count" centre, explained that raw data from the election returns that will be given to the "Quick-Count" center, are from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) who are connected to the Comelec transparency server.

“We have people in the PPCRV who are connected to the Transparency Server who will give us raw data from the elections return from the VCMs,” he said. (PNA)
