Setting conditions for Russia's return to G8 format 'absurd'

MOSCOW, April 13 — Moscow believes inappropriate to set any sort of conditions for Russia to return to the G8 format, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday.

She referred to statements of “criteria” needed for Russia to return to the G8 format, for example “the complete fulfillment” of the Minsk agreements, conditions in regard to the situation in Syria and even in Libya.

“The absurdity of placing this issue is obvious. The activity of the G8 stopped due to the wishes of our Western partners standing on the path for the search of means of unilateral pressure on Russia because of the deep crisis in Ukraine provoked by them,” Zakharova was quoted as saying on the ministry’s website.

She said that current attempts to make Russia “pay” in order to renew the G8 format was “completely groundless.” (PNA/Sputnik)
