ILOILO CITY, Feb. 15 — The Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) here is targeting to distribute various livelihood support to its 662 clients in Western Visayas before the end of this month.

PPA regional director Charito A. Zamora said that the procurement of the supply based on the livelihood identified by intended clients is ongoing. The recipients include probationers, parolees and conditional pardoners in Western Visayas.

Zamora said that 51 types of livelihood projects were identified during a writeshop that was facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). DOLE released to PPA some PHP5.7 million in form of a grant for the livelihood project.

Some of the projects include sari-sari store, swine raising, and trisikad driving. These projects where the beneficiaries already have the needed skills, she explained.

The supervising officers and volunteer probation assistants from PPAs 24 field offices will do the monitoring of the project implementation.

Once the implementation is successful, DOLE may extend another grant for enhancement, Zamra added.

A separate grant will be provided, however, if there are new probationers, parolees and conditional pardoners from this region who will be released from jail. (PNA)
