BAGUIO CITY, Feb. 3 — The local government unit (LGU) of Baguio City allocated Php4 million for the conduct of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet beginning on Saturday at the New Baguio Athletic Bowl.

Baguio City Sports Development Chief Gaudencio Gonzales on Wednesday said the city is ready for the five-day sporting event.

Gonzales added that preparations included the support by concerned LGU departments in preparing the different venues with the deployment of required personnel, security, logistics and other provisions to ensure the success of the athletic event.

The annual CARAA meet is expected to draw in the participation of more than 5,000 athletes and delegates from the five provinces and two cities of the Cordillera Region.

In December last year, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), City Engineering Office (CEO), City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO), the City Administrator, the City Health Office (CHO), Emergency Medical Service (EMS), the City General Services Officer and the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) for the tasks, Gonzales said.

Gonzales said the improvement and rehabilitation of the Melvin Jones Football Grounds and Archery Range, the reservation of the playing venues, swimming pool, football field, the Baguio Convention Center (BCC) has been taken-cared of.

Security personnel have been deployed throughout the event starting from the opening program and at the various billeting centers and playing venues.

Medical personnel with ambulances and medical equipment and paraphernalia will be deployed in the different venues.

The city was tapped as venue for this year’s regional meet anew after its hosting last year proved successful even while the upgrading of the sports facility was then half done, Gonzales said. (PNA)
