DSWD extends P42-M worth of aid to typhoon ‘Nona’ victims

MANILA, Dec. 16 — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that P42,237,310 worth of relief assistance had been provided as of Wednesday morning to local government units (LGUs) in Regions IV-A (Calabarzon), V (Bicol), and VIII (Eastern Visayas) for distribution to families affected by typhoon "Nona."

The agency said that of the amount, P38,995,900 went to the LGUs of Region V, with Albay receiving P10,316,104; Camarines Norte, P4,965,236; Camarines Sur, P10,671,552; Catanduanes, P7,040,260; Masbate, P1,111,620; and Sorsogon, P4,891,128.

The province of Northern Samar in Region VIII was provided with P2,700,000, while Batangas in Region IV-A was given P541,410 worth of aid.

Reports as of Wednesday afternoon showed a total of 170,845 families or 758,177 persons were affected by the typhoon. Of them, 52,899 families or 236,452 persons are inside 861 evacuation centers managed by LGUs in Regions IV-A, IV-B, V and VIII.

Based on initial assessment by the DSWD disaster teams, of the total of 90,953 houses affected by the typhoon, 8,059 houses were destroyed totally and 82,894 were damaged partially. (PNA)
