CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Nov. 30 — The city government led by Mayor Edwin Santiago on Monday joined the nation in commemorating the 152nd birth anniversary of hero Andres Bonifacio at the Heroes Hall here.

Police Chief Inspector Andrea Bonifacio, a direct descendant of the hero, together with some local officials, students, city folks and city employees, attended the event.

"This is the history of our race. I am sure Bonifacio wished that we have unity in fighting our present enemies like poverty, education and unemployment," Santiago said.

"There is no need to sacrifice life for one to become a hero. What is needed is to support and help one another to attain freedom and fight problem in order to obtain development and progress," he added.

Meanwhile, Andrea Bonifacio said their family is thankful for the tribute.

“What is important is how can we show our love for the motherland,” she said.

Andres Bonifacio was born on November 30, 1863 in Tondo, Manila with Capampangan roots from Macabebe and Masantol, Pampanga.

He founded the Katipunan on July 7, 1892 to fight Spain’s rule and gain national independence.

He died on May 10, 1897 near Mount Buntis in Maragondon, Cavite. (PNA)
