BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Oct. 18 — Typhoon "Lando" brought only light rains almost the whole night of Saturday in Bataan but strong winds were felt intermittently from dawn till past noon Sunday.

The winds kept on roaring after a short lull, gaining strength each time.

A big area of ready-to-harvest palay and even with young panicles in the towns of Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Orani, Samal and Abucay and Balanga City were blown down and lodged on the field.

Only small branches of trees along the MacArthur Highway and Roman Expressway were cut by the winds but easily removed that made travel unhampered in the two major roads in Bataan.

The rains were light that did not cause flooding even in the usual flood-prone areas in Hermosa and Dinalupihan towns.

Telephone and internet connections in some areas, like in Samal town, bogged down for still unknown reason.

There were reports of power interruptions in some areas in Samal, Dinalupihan and Balanga City.

A report from Mariveles Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office showed that the eight-kilometer Mariveles zigzag road was temporarily closed to traffic as safety precaution due to the strong winds that might cause trees to fall.

However, there was no report of fallen trees. (PNA)
