ALGIERS, Oct. 19 — At least four people were killed on Sunday in a factory explosion in northern Algeria, according to a statement from the Defense Ministry.

The statement said the explosion occurred at a factory run by the defense ministry in the province of Ain Defla, 150 km western Algiers.

No additional casualties were reported so far as an investigation has been launched following the deadly incident.

Meanwhile, sources said Algerian army troops thwarted an attempt to smuggle a batch of weapons on the southernmost borderline.

A load of weapons were discovered in a hideout during a reconnaissance patrol of army troops in the locality of Tinzaouatine, near the border with Mali, sources said.

The Defense Ministry specified that the troops seized three FMPK machine guns, a Diktariov machine gun, four Kalashnikov submachine guns, two Simonov semi-automatic rifles and a load of grenades and munitions of different calibers. (PNA/Xinhua)
