'Flavors of Dumaguete' showcase marks World Tourism Day

DUMAGUETE CITY, Sept. 28 — A showcase of all the culinary extravagance in the city and exchange of knowledge between HRM (hotel and restaurant) and tourism students was witnessed in a one-day activity dubbed as the “Flavors of Dumaguete” in celebration of the World Tourism Day on Sunday.

Dumaguete City tourism officer Woodrow Maquiling, Jr. said that Dumagueteños don’t have to go to Italy, Lebanon, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, australia or to Middle Eastern countries for them to taste their respective cuisines because “we have it all in the city.”

According to Maquiling, it was not just a showcase of all the culinary extravagance that are available in Dumaguete but also a sort of knowledge exchange where chefs have to impart little of their trade secrets to more than almost 2,000 budding HRM, tourism and culinary arts students who were purposely invited to the activity.

The best part of the activity was the free tasting of the amazing flavors of Dumaguete offered by at least 16 restaurants and food outlets.

A private company shouldered their burners and liquefied petroleum gas with P5,000 subsidy from the city government.

"Flavors of Dumaguete" was organized mainly for tourism awareness in recognizing that one of the major components of the industry is food which is a precursor of tourism and travel in the world. (PNA)
