MANILA, Sept. 28 — The Department of Health (DOH) is advising patients to maintain strong immune system in managing post-dengue hemorrhagic fever and other illnesses.

According to DOH spokesperson Dr. Lyndon Lee-Suy, it is important for patients to follow the proper ways to have a healthy immune system for faster recovery not only from dengue fever but also other illnesses.

Dr. Lee-Suy explained that maintenance of good immune system can be done by drinking plenty of water, eating the right kinds of foods, sleeping well, avoiding smoking and drinking of alcoholic beverage and having some form of exercises.

He said that having a strong immune system is a way that helps in combating diseases like dengue and other common ailments.

“If people have a strong immune system, it is possible that they will even not likely feel some strains of dengue that may attack them,” he added.

In contrast, he noted that if the immune system is weak, chances of infections and other viral diseases can easily attack the body because the natural defense is at its lower level, making it vulnerable to different illnesses. (PNA)
