Nueva Vizcaya nutri body to give free weighing scales for use of pre-school kids

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Sept. 21 — The Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) here will be giving free weighing scales to various schools in the province to monitor and address malnutrition problems among pre-school children.

Governor Ruth Padilla, PNC chairwoman, has instructed representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Provincial Nutrition Office (PNO) to conduct an inventory among schools to know the condition of their weighing scales and those who have no instrument yet.

She said the P.5 million incentive for the province, being chosen as the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition (CROWN) program implementation by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) will be used to purchase 27 units of Detecto Weighing Scales.

DepEd report showed that 80 percent of the 333 schools in the province does not have weighing scales.

The prevalence of malnutrition caused by overweight and underweight pre-school children has been one of the major problems in the province.

The top five towns affected by this problem are Ambaguio, Alfonso Castaneda, Kayapa, Quezon and Bagabag. (PNA)
