ILOILO CITY, Sept. 15 — Political leaders who gathered for the inauguration of the Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) graced by President Benigno Aquino III Monday could not contain themselves in admiring the edifice as it was officially opened to the public for the first time.

Capiz Governor Victor Tanco said that the ICC built at the cost of around Php700 million is “very impressive”.

”It is very beautiful… something to be proud of in Panay island,” the governor, who also has served as the Western Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC) chairman, said.

Also, Guimaras Representative JC Rahman Nava said that with the ICC, Iloilo has now become an option for Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions/Events (MICE). "Before, we cannot offer one facility for major conventions,” he said.

Likewise, Iloilo Fifth District Rep. Niel Tupas, Jr. said that the inauguration Monday was “a proud day for Iloilo and the Ilonggos”. He further said that the ICC is a symbol of progress and development.

President Aquino, in his message during the inauguration, made special credit to three Ilonggos — Senate President Franklin M. Drilon who initiated the project, Architect William Coscolluela for the design of the ICC that is inspired by IIoilo’s Dinagyang and Paraw Festivals and singer/songwriter Jose Mari Chan for renderings a few songs during the program.

The ICC is a two-storey building that has a gross floor area of 11,693.79 square meters, with four halls on the ground floor and in the second, seven function rooms, museum, VIP room, and other amenities. It is located within the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. (PNA)
