Call made for expansion of Iran-Mexico energy cooperation

TEHRAN, Sept. 8 — Visiting Mexican Minister of Cooperative, Labor and Social Welfare Alfonso Navarrete Prida called for expansion of relations with Iran in energy fields.

Talking to reporters, Navarrete Prida stressed that the ways for expansion of mutual cooperation in oil industry was raised during his meeting with Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh today.

'The ground is properly prepared for expansion of relations in oil industry in Mexico,' he said, welcoming Tehran to cooperate with Mexico City in this area.

Yesterday, ministers of Cooperative, Labor and Social Welfare of Iran and Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding on social security.

In a meeting with Iranian Minister Ali Rabiei, Navarrete Prida called his visit to Iran important in direction of developing bilateral cooperation, adding that signing the MoU is a good sign for beginning cooperation between Tehran and Mexico City.

Meanwhile, Rabiei said that Iran and Mexico have always had good relations with each other and transferring experiences between the two countries on social security will strengthen the cooperation.

He stressed that Iran has valuable experiences in the field of labor relations, work security and sanitation, social security, and technical and vocational training, which can be transferred to Mexican side.

The minister also expressed Iranian companies, affiliated to Insurance Funds, readiness to participate in joint investment in issues like construction, mine, petrochemicals, treatment and medicine.

Rabiei also reminded good experiences of Mexico in the field of improvement of insurance funds system and retirement, adding that the MoU will prepare the ground for transferring these experiences.

The two sides also agreed to form a joint committee under chairmanship of deputy ministers to follow up implementation of the MoU. (PNA/IRNA)
