Cagayan PTO to introduce more activities to boost local tourism

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Sept. 8 — In a bid to boost tourism, the Provincial Tourism Office has increased its budget from PHP1 million to PHP6 million this year.

During a press conference, PTO chief Jennifer Junio said that the increase in budget aims to fund more activities lined up this year.

Among these activities include the production of promotional materials and the construction of Cagayan tourism interactive website and lectures on awareness and appreciation of the province's tourism sector.

In addition, the municipality of Baggao and its cave tour package is set to be promoted as well as the town of Sta. Teresita, which can be a perfect venue for tourism conventions, will also be highlighted.

Sta. Teresita is being eyed by the Department of Tourism (DOT) region 2 to be the Vannamei capital of the North because of huge volume of shrimp production of aqua farms in the town.

She also added that they will formulate the Cagayan tourism master plan as well as conduct the enhancement training and seminar for tourism officers from the 22 municipalities in the region.

The PTO is now eyeing to conduct the 1st Cagayan North Tourism Festival which will showcase the street dancing prowess of the different provinces in the region.

The province's tourism sector has also helped the livelihood of locals through tour guiding and homestays.(PNA)
