Indonesia sees 4.76% rise in foreign tourist arrivals in July

JAKARTA, Sept. 1 — Indonesia recorded 777,200 foreign holidaymakers in July, an increase of 4.76 percent from a year earlier, the national statistics bureau said on Tuesday.

In Bali, the center of the country's tourism industry, the number of foreign tourists rose by 6.40 percent to 381,900, said Suryamin, head of the statistics bureau.

Indonesia received a total of 5.47 million foreign tourists in the first seven months of this year, up 2.69 percent on year, he told a press conference.

Indonesia expects 10 million foreign tourists for the whole of this year.

The government plans to revive the tourism industry by extending free visa facilities to 45 countries and regions.

In the next five years, Indonesia targets 15 million foreign holidaymakers a year, according to Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Rizal Ramli. (PNA/Xinhua)
