Mitsubishi to fly Japan's first small passenger jet late October

NAGOYA, Aug. 31 — Japan's first domestically produced small passenger jet developed by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. will likely make its maiden flight in late October at the earliest, sources familiar with the plan said Monday.

Mitsubishi Aircraft, the subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., had earlier said the maiden flight of the aircraft, dubbed the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, would be sometime between September and October.

The company is conducting final checks on the twin-engine, narrow-body aircraft before its maiden flight out of Nagoya airport in the town of Toyoyama, Aichi Prefecture, according to the sources. The project has been hit by a series of delays in development and delivery. (PNA/Kyodo)
