TESDA chief expresses desire to run for senator

BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Aug. 28 –Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) director general Joel Villanueva has expressed here of his desire to seek a senate post if he can prove a performance that he can be proud of.

“I am not hiding my interest to run for senator in the next election because in the history, I think, there are only few, l representative from Central Luzon in the senate,” Villanueva said as he graced the mass graduation in the Technical Vocational Education and Training of 1,800 students from various technical vocational institutions in Bataan.

He, however, said that meanwhile he would focus on working in the creation of more jobs for the country.

”I have high respect to the voters and I want, probably in the few weeks before I decide to run, to ensure that I have good performance that I can be proud of and also my supporters,” the TESDA chief said.

He said that under his administration, TESDA focused on jobs, the creation of more jobs and in partnership with industries to create jobs.

”The biggest challenge is the jobs mismatch. This is what the TESDA wants to address,” Villanueva said.

He expressed high regards for Governor Albert Garcia.

“The provincial government of Bataan is a proud partner of TESDA,” he said.

Villanueva and Garcia handed certificates to graduating students and medals to the winners in the provincial skills and socio-cultural competition.

Villanueva also awarded vouchers amounting to Php13.2 million to 11 institutions for Training for Work Scholarship Program and other training programs. (PNA)
