LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, July 2 — The number of pupils of the Guelew Integrated School in San Carlos City confined at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) and other hospitals for possible case of food poisoning had already risen to 114 from 110 as of 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna de Guzman said least 62 pupils were admitted at the PPH and other hospitals while 52 others are under observation for possible food poisoning.

Dr. Anna De Guzman said the 114 victims from grades 3 and 4 pupils of the Guelew Integrated School suffered from dizziness and vomiting after eating Menthos 3D chewing gum from china with no expiration date in its label.

The candies were bought from a sari-sari store in front of the school. It was the first time that the store sold that kind of candy, that's why many pupils bought some.

Further investigation is ongoing to ascertain if the victims really suffered food poisoning, said the health officer.

Samples of the candies retrieved were sent to the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFD) Region 1 in La Union. (PNA)
