ILOILO CITY, June 15 — San Enrique, Iloilo aims to be the next big attraction in Iloilo province as it reveals its best kept secrets of natural wonders such as waterfalls, caves, mushroom farms and hotsprings during a meeting between the Department of Tourism Region 6 Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas and local government officials of San Enrique led by Mayor Ramona P. Go recently at the DOT Region 6 office.

Mayor Go said that the municipality has several tourist attractions that are best for adventure-seekers.

San Enrique should make tourism as vehicle to develop livelihood within the area. You (local government unit) can develop your mushroom farms and make it a destination where visitors can have hands-on experience on how to cultivate mushrooms and integrate hot springs as one of the must-experience spots in the area,” said Director Catalbas.

Director Catalbas cited that the municipality can also embark on the homestay program since San Enrique lacks accommodation establishments.

“We can conduct trainings to households that are willing to lend one room in their house for visitors to stay overnight”, Director Catalbas added.

Recently, San Enrique was chosen by the Middle Way Foundation Institute to be the venue of another Light of Peace event on August 29, 2015, where 10,000 – 15,000 candles are to be lighted for the attainment of peace. This year’s theme is “Progress through Inner Peace.”

San Enrique is a third class municipality in the Province of Iloilo. By car, it is an hour away from Metro Iloilo. By bus, visitors can ride Kalibo/Caticlan/Roxas bus from Tagbak Terminal and drop-off at Passi City terminal where they can ride a tricycle going to San Enrique town proper. (PNA)
