'Sabsabong Ti Mayo' opens on May 14

BAGUIO CITY, May 11 – Ten key cities in the north will be featured in this year’s “Sabsabong Ti Mayo” (Flowers of May), a four day festivity of culture, trade and beauty.

The Baguio City Government through the City Tourism Office is expecting a grand celebration which will commence on May 14, when participants arrive from the key cities.

Expected to join the celebration are cities which will showcase their local and cultural exhibits and products and a parade of their local beauties in the “Reyna Elena” Pageantry.

This year’s theme, “celebrate the beauty and culture of the Northern Cities” which will focus on the grandeur of Alaminos City, Dagupan City, Urdaneta City and San Carlos City in Pangasinan; City of San Fernando, La Union; Candon City and Vigan City in Ilocos Sur; Laoag City and Batac City in Iocos Norte and Tabuk City in the Cordillera Province of Apayao.

The ten cities will converge in Baguio City to highlight its cultural and eco-tourism products during the tourism exhibit based on the One Town One Product (OTOP) platform and a fashion show of leading apparel brands.

Highlight of the event are the Amianan Tourism Forum on May 14 and the Grand Opening of the “Sabsabong ti Mayo” on May 15 at the Baguio Convention Center which will be followed by the Amianan Trade Exhibit and Diskwento Caravan.

A Santacruzan, a procession commonly practiced in the lowlands, will also be featured on May 15.

The summer event is aimed to continuously promote the ten cities of North Luzon with Baguio City as its Central Marketing Hub.

Also included in the event is a tourism forum on the intensification of marketing and promotion through the close networking of local government units with the support of local private entities. (PNA)
