LEGAZPI CITY, April 22 (PNA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways Bicol Regional Office (DPWH-Bicol) has launched its official publication, the Bicol Rev-Up, with its maiden issue covering the January-March period.

In magazine form, the first issue highlights the one-day visit of DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson to Sorsogon's 1st District Engineering Office on March 9, 2015, according to its editor, Lucy V. Castañeda, administrative officer V (public information officer V-designate) and editor-in-chief.

Page one of the 20-page magazine tells of the story and background of the secretary as well as the activities that happened in the event.

Another important content of the publication is about Singson's visit to Legazpi City where he inspected the Tibu pumping station together with DPWH Bicol Regional Director Melvin B. Navarro and Legazpi City Mayor Noel E. Rosal.

Castañeda said the DPWH is hastening the construction of the project to solve massive flooding in Legazpi City.

According to Singson, this move will also reduce downstream flooding during rainy season by detaining the water, then pumping it out later at a regulated rate of flow to nearby rivers and tributaries.

Meanwhile, Navarro on Tuesday said the construction of two more pumping stations in Legazpi — Baybay and Victory Village pumping stations — is also being undertaken by the regional office.

“We are going to take advantage of the summer season to complete the construction of these pumping stations and all components of the Legazpi City Urban Drainage Project — and we are hopeful that the weather will cooperate with us,” he said.

It will be recalled that the Bicol Region experienced unworkable weather condition in the last quarter of 2014 until early part of 2015.

Some contributors to the encountered project delay were the non-delivery of machines/equipment. (PNA)
