Santa Maria celebrates 4th Agri-Trade Fair

SANTA MARIA, Laguna April 16 (PNA) — Santa Maria town is staging its 4th Marilag Festival, a four- day festivities from April 14-17 adopting the theme " Agri-turismo Paunlarin, Santa Maria Pagyamanin." (Developing Agri -Tourism for Santa Maria's Wealth)

The town’s agri-trade fair cum festival which coincides with the harvest season of Laguna’s biggest agricultural municipality and one of the rice granaries of the province.

The town folk also treat visitors to traditional gastronomic specialties and native delicacies such as the "bibingka," "suman," "sinukmani," "kalamay," "pinaltok" while enjoying the restored authentic farm and field fun games when they stage the “Palarong Pinoy” featuring "tiyakad," "palo sebo," "juego de anillo," "kadang-kadang," "hilahan ng lubid" (tug-of-war), "pagulong" and "hampas palayok" and "hulihan ng biik."

Mayor Ma. Rocelle V. Carolino said in an interview that they will also showcase the prides of Santa Maria with its natural attraction known as the “Three Falls,” a spectacular three-tier stream and springs cascading from the slopes of the Sierra Madre Mountain for swimming and picnic, the Marilag Eco Park in Laurel Village which doubles as an ecological park, recreational, swimming and natural picnic area for nature lovers and now provides livelihood for village folk as tour and trek guides.

Highlights of this event are the inauguration of the Inayapan bridge in front of the municipal hall and the integrated canal system on Friday (April 17) afternoon.

“MARILAG” means beautiful, attractive and noble and a contraction of MARIA and LAGUNA which now contributes to the tourism boom in the fourth district which was initiated by former Mayor Antonio"Tony" Carolino and supported by former 4th district representative Egay San Luis in developing the town’s Agri tourism.
