UN special envoy on Ebola to hold video link press conference on April 8

MANILA, April 2 (PNA) – Dr. David Nabarro, United Nations special envoy on Ebola, will discuss with Filipino journalists on the progress of the global Ebola virus and on issues hampering the response during a press conference via video-link from New York on April 8.

Dr. Nabarro will also discuss details of the Standard Administrative Arrangement for the Ebola Response Multi-Partner Trust Fund, which was signed by the Philippine Government and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in the Philippines.

Ms. Teresa Debuque, press relations officer of the UN Information Center in the Philippines, said the video-link press briefing will be held at the office of the UN resident coordinator at the RCBC Plaza, Yuchengco Tower in Makati City at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Dr. Nabarro studied medicine at Oxford and London Universities and later worked as the Senior UN System Coordinator for Avian and Human Influenza at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

In September 2005, Dr. Nabarro joined the office of the UN Secretary General as Senior Coordinator for Avian and Pandemic Influenza.

In January 2009, he was given the responsibility of coordinating the UN system’s High-Level Task Force on Global Security before he was appointed Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Food Security and Nutrition.

Since January 2010, he has worked with the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement and was appointed SUN Movement coordinator in January 2012.

In August 2014, Dr. Nabarro was designated as Senior United Nations System Coordinator for Ebola Virus Disease, with the responsibility for ensuring that the United Nations system makes an effective and coordinated contribution to the global effort to control the outbreak of Ebola. (PNA)
