Batangas police arrests marijuana grower

LEMERY, Batangas, March 26 — Elements of Philippine National Police (PNP) in this municipality led by Police Chief Inspector Gerry M. Laylo, together with elements from the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) led by Police Inspector Roy Cuevas , platoon leader, arrested a 37-year-old farmer cultivating marijuana at Sub-village Ayamitan, Mayasang Village on Tuesday.

Batangas provincial police director Senior Supt. Omega Jireh D. Fidel identified the suspect as Florencio Austria Balbacal alias Poly, of Sub-village Ayamitan, Mayasang Village in this municipality. The suspect was caught in the act of tending to 17 full grown marijuana plants surrounding his house.

Another four marijuana seedlings planted in two improvised plastic pots, five small heat sealed plastic sachets containing suspected marijuana seeds and one tied pouch containing suspected dried marijuana were also confiscated from the suspect.

The full grown marijuana plants were uprooted and were placed in a transparent garbage bag in the presence of Village Chairperson Maximiano C. Gamboa, media representative, Lito Rendora and Lorna Orlina from the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The suspect together with the confiscated marijuana plants were brought to the Regional Crime Laboratory at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna for drug test and laboratory examination, respectively.

Balbacal is now in the custody of the Lemery Police Station facing charges for Violation of Article II, Section 16 of Republic Act 9165 “Cultivation or Culture of Plants Classified as Dangerous Drugs or are the Sources Thereof” (Otherwise Known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002).
