MANILA, March 17 (PNA) – The first unit of the Mariveles Coal Power Plant, which has an installed capacity of 325.8 megawatts (MW), has tripped and brought power interruption to some of the Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco’s) franchise area on Tuesday.

”The temporary power interruption experienced in some areas from 6:40 PM is not due to supply deficiency. Automatic Load Dropping (ALD) or the unexpected power interruption was experienced due to tripping of GN POWER 1,” Meralco said on its twitter account.

The distribution company said power in the areas is back to normal, as it was restored four minutes later at 6:44 p.m.

Meralco said the cause of the GNPower operated power plant’s tripping still has to be determined.

Irma Exconde, Electric Power Industry Management Bureau Director at the Department of Energy (DOE), told PNA GNPower’s actual available capacity was at 108 MW on Monday, while its forecast available capacity for Tuesday totals 200 MW.

She did not identify the cause of the difference between Monday’s actual capacity and Tuesday’s forecast capacity.

Exconde said the DOE has yet to receive an advisory regarding the temporary outage from GN Power.

On Tuesday, Exconde told reporters that no brownouts will occur as long as there will be no forced power plant outages. (PNA)
