MANILA, March 16 — A retired Catholic prelate is hoping that Pope Francis will stay as the head of the Roman Catholic Church for a long time.

With this, Lingayen-Dagupan Emeritus Archbishop Oscar Cruz is wishing that God would give the pontiff long life.

The former head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is reacting on reports that the Holy Father predicted that his pontificate will be "brief", noting that his tenure will be two or five years.

Cruz noted that he was no longer surprised on the statement of Pope Francis.

“So when he said that I am not surprised … he seemed to have that feeling,” he said.

The Catholic prelate added, “It’s a pity that he is such a good man and very kind pope that we will lose him after so short a time.”

He said that the pope is not only kind but also incisive. “It means he is consistent but also insistent on the gospel proclamation on the propagation of faith, etc. (PNA)
