MANDURRIAO, Iloilo City, March 2 — It was indeed a rousing finish by a scrappy Philippineteam at the close of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Taekwondo Invitational ChampionshIps at SM City Mall'sActivity Center Sunday afternoon, as two Filipinos went at each others throats in the heavy class of 80 kg+, the last bout of the well-attended international sports competition.

Lanky Christopher Robert Uy's long legs were just too much for compatriot Paul Ivan Norombaba, the former scoring heavily in all three rounds through wicked round kicks to the head of the latter.

Going into the final round, Uy stormed ahead way beyond Norombaba's reach,15-3 to win the 3rd gold and sent the Philippines on top in the team standings.

The Philippines and favorite Korea each had three golds, and three silvers, but the hosts earned morebronzes with six against Korea's two bronzes. It was a close call for both teams, but the Filipinosmade the cut in the last stages of the 2-day tournament to wrest the overall lead.

Top 4 finishers: Phl 3g 3s 6b; Korea 3g 3s 2b; Vietnam 1g 0s 2b; Mongolia 1g 0s 0b.(PNA)
