DAVAO CITY, Jan. 28 — Davao City will be the last leg of the expedition cruise coming from the United States passing through cities of different countries including the Philippines.

Travel Advantage president and general manager Edmund Mayormita said he was tasked to handle the Davao leg of the expedition cruise that accommodates about a hundred tourists, mostly Americans, for a short stopover in Davao City.

Although he did not provide further details, he said this could be the result of the different initiatives undertaken by the government through the Department of Tourism (DOT) in travel missions abroad including the US.

"It can also be the result of familiarization tours initiated by DOT among international travel writers where they talk about our city and in return international tour operators would have an idea about Davao," he added.

Mayormita said they have included Davao in the itinerary of these tourists who love adventure and travel.

He said they are the visitors who want to see the countryside and other places of nature that is why "we have identified two sites in the north in a banana plantation in Davao del Norte and the Philippine Eagle Foundation in Calinan".

The tourists, before coming to Davao, will spend some time in Camiguin Island.

He said these inbound tourists for their return trip will fly on the same day to Manila as their exit point to their home destination while another set of foreign tourists will take the expedition cruise from Davao City and sail towards their next destination in Indonesia and to their point of origin.

Mayormita said Davao City is now becoming a regular destination for cruises like this even as he said that Davao has become a favorite destination for foreign tourists. (PNA)
