ILOILO CITY, Jan. 28 — More than a million tourists are expected to flock in this city within the first two months of the year enticed by four big celebrations.

The recently concluded Dinagyang Festival has already gathered around a million visitors, said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Thousands of devotees are expected to flock the annual religious fiesta of the Our Lady of Candles in Jaro district next week.

Pilgrims outside of Western Visayas make it a point to visit the miraculous image of the Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria mounted outside the Jaro Cathedral.

The image is believed to be miraculous, having grown taller in years from its original two-foot measurement.

The Chinese New Year is also expected to draw local tourists. This city was host to the first Chinese New Year celebration outside of Metro Manila.

The fourth big event slated in February is the Paraw Regatta, which has been dubbed as the longest sailboat competition in Southeast Asia.

Mabilog said that the success of these events is attributed to the good partnership between the public and private sectors.

These he said will provide more job opportunities for Ilonggos as well as for small businesses to earn. (PNA)
