Police file charges vs suspect in illegal firearms cache raid

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 27 -– The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental has filed charges in violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) against a suspect arrested in a raid at which a cache of illegal firearms was seized.

The suspect was identified as Feliciano Torres Candido, alias Fely, 61 years old, married and a resident of Sitio San Jose, Barangay 2 in Bais City, Negros Oriental.

Candido was the subject of a search operation by elements of the Provincial Intelligence Branch-Special Operations Group of the Negros Oriental PNP office, headed by Sr. Insp. Jul Mohammad Jamiri, and in coordination with the Bais City police this past weekend.

During the search at Candido’s residence, which was carried out by virtue of a search warrant issued by RTC Branc 45 Judge Candelario Gonzalez, police operatives recovered several short and long firearms.

These included one improvised shotgun with two rounds of ammunition, one Smith & Wesson caliber .38 revolver, one Colt caliber .45 pistol with one magazine and seven rounds of live ammunition, one U.S. Carbine caliber .30 MI with one magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition, and one 9-millimeter handgun.

Police authorities are still investigating Candido’s background and why he got hold of such firearms. (PNA)
