IBSA Davao chess elims slated Jan. 26 in Davao City (Sports)

DAVAO CITY, Jan. 25 (PNA) -– The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Davao Chess eliminations will be held on January 26 and 27 at the Food Cove Function Room, 2nd floor of NCCC Mall Davao.

Briefing of the rules will be on Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon while the registration is from 10 a.m. to 12 noon one the same day.

Game time is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participants are all blind (B1) and partially blind (B2) chess players of Davao City only according to Philspada Davao president James Infiesto.

“We want to determine Davao City’s representative in the National IBSA elimination on March 4-7 in Manila,” Infiesto said.

The winners in Manila will represent Philippines in IBSA World Games in Seoul, South Korea on May 8-18.

The IBSA World Championships and Games are an international multi-sport event, occurring every four years, organized by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA). The events enable blind and partially sighted sportspeople to compete in a number of sports.

The first edition took place at Madrid, Spain in 1998. It was followed in Quebec, Canada (2003), So Paulo, Brazil (2007) and Antalya, Turkey (2011).

In 2015 the 5th IBSA World Championships and Games will be held in Seoul, South Korea and will include competitions in Power lifting, Judo, Goalball, Football, Chess, Tenpin Bowling, Tandem Cycling, Swimming, Showdown and Athletics. (PNA)
