LTFRB 7 recommends PHP30 flagdown rate for taxis in Central Visayas

CEBU CITY, Jan. 25 — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 has recommended a PHP30 flagdown rate for taxis in Central Visayas, a PHP10 reduction from the current PHP40 rate.

But LTFRB 7 Director Reynaldo Elnar said the succeeding rate of PHP3.50 for every 300 meters will remain.

Elnar said he submitted his recommendation to the LTFRB central office in Manila last Friday. The recommendation, however, does not cover the yellow taxi or the airport taxi.

Elnar said he also recommended a 20-centavo reduction from the current PHP2 per kilometer rate for vans-for-hire.

If the recommendation is approved, the fare of vans-for- hire should be PHP1.80 per kilometer.

“I recommended for reduction in the flagdown rate only, with no further reduction of the succeeding 300 meters because the prices of spare parts did not go down with the prices of oil products,” Elnar said.

Elnar made the recommendation despite opposition from the members of the Metro Cebu Taxi Operators Association who claimed that prices of spare parts remained high.

Vans-for-hire operators, on the other hand, were divided on the issue of fare rollback.

Elnar said his recommendation does not cover yellow taxis or those taxis servicing airport passengers which are not allowed to ferry passengers in going back to the airport.

Airport taxi has a flagdown rate of PHP70 and PHP4 for every succeeding 300 meters.

Negros Oriental Rep. Manuel Iway earlier filed a petition for taxi fare reduction from the PHP40 flagdown rate to PHP30 and further reduce by PHP1 the PHP3.50 rate for every succeeding 300 meters. (PNA)
