MINSK, Jan. 22 — Minsk is ready to host the proposed Contact Group meeting on resolving the Ukrainian conflict in any format agreed between the parties, a spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

“If needed, we are ready to organize the work of the Contact Group in those configurations and formats on which the participants of the negotiation process agree,” spokesman Dmitry Mironchik told journalists.

The diplomat said in comments to Wednesday’s Berlin talks between the foreign ministers of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine that Belarus remains committed to contributing to a peaceful settlement of the crisis.

“We will do everything we can for the speedy settlement of the situation in Ukraine,” he said.

The Normandy Quartet meeting in Berlin on Wednesday focused on the search out of the “hot phase” of the crisis. In particular, the sides called for a more active work of the Contact Group.

The Belarusian capital previously hosted the Contact Group meetings in July, September and December last year.

The Contact Group is the only format where the opposing sides in the Ukrainian conflict are working directly together on all matters to achieve peaceful settlement. It also involves Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). (PNA/TASS)
