ILOILO CITY, Jan. 23 — This city and Iloilo province expect heavy influx of tourists this month as the Dinagyang Festival, the country’s grandest festival, is fast approaching.

The Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2015, with tagline “Sum it up to the Top” and theme “Señor Santo Niño, Hope of the Poor” is expected to fill the streets of Iloilo City on Jan. 23-25.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI always aims to accord warm welcome to guests upon arrival in Iloilo and all other parts of Western Visayas. For this reason, promotional and welcome billboards were installed at the arrival area of the Iloilo International Airport. Soon similar billboards will be installed at Bacolod-Silay Airport, Kalibo International Airport, Caticlan Airport and Roxas City Airport.

“The billboard aims to show our heartfelt welcome to all the guests and tourists coming in Iloilo to witness the world-famous Dinagyang Festival and visit points of interest and tourist attraction all throughout the year. The greetings is written in Hiligaynon for our guests to feel the ambiance of being in Iloilo right upon arrival at the Iloilo International Airport. Non-Hiligaynon speakers can always ask a fellow passenger or government personnel assigned at the airport. This way, he earns himself an instant friend”, said DOT VI regional director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas.

The promotional billboard features the major tourist attractions and festivities in Iloilo such as Dinagyang Festival, Museo Iloilo, Iloilo River Esplanade, Isla Gigantes in Northern Iloilo, Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral, Calle Real, Lapaz Batchoy, Miagao Church, Bulabog Putian National Park of Dingle, Carabao Carroza Race of Pavia, bobbin lace making and embroidery of Sta. Barbara and Pintados de Passi of Passi City with a huge “Malipayon nga pag-abot sa Iloilo” greeting in the center and carries the theme and logo of “It’s More Fun in the Philippines”, dubbed as the world’s 3rd smartest marketing campaign and the DOT Region VI tourism campaign, “Experience Western Visayas First”.

“How we treat our tourists from the time they arrive in Western Visayas until they went back to their place of origin determines whether they will come back or not and whether they will recommend our region to their relatives, business associates or friends or talk ill of Western Visayas or the Philippines, as the case may be. It is important that we make them feel that they are always welcome to come here in our region”, Catalbas said. (PNA)
