AROROY, Masbate, Jan. 21 (PNA) — After a five-day rigorous medical screening in December last year in the MC Hospital, Cataingan District Hospital and Aroroy Municipal Hospital, the Masbate Gold Project (MGP) is set to hold its second of a three-year round medical mission on January 26, a top MGP official said Wednesday.

Gene Gregorio, MGP communications director, said the Interplast team composed of Australian doctors and specialists will arrive in Manila early evening of January 24, Saturday.

Florencio Cayco, MGP Special Operations manager, and Dr. Jonathan Ang, the company’s medical doctor, were tasked to meet the members of the Interplast team and guide them around the mission in Masbate City and for a tour in Aroroy.

They will be bringing their own medical equipment and supplies for the surgical mission. The team will stay for an overnight rest in Manila and travel the next day to Masbate City.

A tour of the MGP mine site awaits the group.

The medical and surgical mission proper will be held on Jan. 26 at the Masbate Provincial Hospital.

Medical check-ups will start around 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for Masbate City and Mobo only.

The whole-day medical and surgical operation schedules were set on Jan. 27 to Jan. 31.

The Interplast team, according to Gregorio, is composed of more than 20 doctors and specialists led by Dr. John De Waal.

Waal will be assisted by Australia-New Zealand Interplast coordinator Thomas Laporto. MGP’s medical program dubbed as operation “I-Smile" is organized to provide free constructive facial treatment to the common people of Masbate suffering from cleft lips/palate and burns.

Cayco said the three-year medical mission was programmed to minimize patients suffering from intuitive facial deformations here in Masbate.

After the medical mission, the team will have some rest and recreation with a pre-arranged hopping activity to the Buntod Reef Marine Sanctuary, one of the top emerging tourist destinations of Masbate City. (PNA)
