ILOILO CITY, Jan. 19 – A police officer alleged to be a henchman of Estancia Mayor Rene Cordero was tagged prime suspect in the indiscriminate firing of firearm last Saturday that injured three persons inside the videoke bar in Estancia, Iloilo.

The Estancia PNP, meanwhile, identified those injured as Giovanni Katipunan, 24 years old, his elder brother Rolando, 30, both residents of Brgy. Salngan, Passi City and their friend Ricky Fiebre, 37, of Brgy. Tagubong, also in Passi City.

Belated police report said the alleged indiscriminate firing of firearm happened Saturday evening.

The suspect, PO1 Argie Esico, who is presently assigned at the Estancia PNP, felt insulted when he saw the Katipunan brothers and their group laughed just after he rendered the song.

The berserk PO1 Esico reportedly approached and dared the group to a fight and at the same time fired his service firearm on the cement floor.

It was alleged that the Katipunan brothers grappled with the police officer that heard several gun fires echoed, hitting Giovanni on his left foot and his elder brother Rolando on his right shoulder while a bullet scraped the head of their friend Fiebre.

It was fortunate that the group’s three other companions, identified as Albert Salazar and a certain alyas Joel, were not hit by bullets during the shooting rampage.

The Estancia PNP has recovered empty shells of .9mm caliber pistol in the crime scene.

Estancia Mayor Rene Cordero, in a radio interview, disclaimed allegation that PO1 Esico was his henchmen, saying that the police officer was often sent by the town’s chief of police every time he request for a security detail during his official travel.

Meanwhile, the wounded Katipunan brothers and Fiebre are presently confined at the district hospital in nearby Balasan, Iloilo for medical treatment.

Esico was ordered detained for the filing of appropriate charges against him. (PNA)
