Bachelor, 85, dies in hit-and-run accident

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 19 — He had lived a life full of single blessedness for eight and one-half decades.

The life of Domingo Malate, 85 and single, however, was suddenly snapped on the way to Bicol Medical Center after a maroon-colored vehicle of unknown model hit him that caused him to be thrown into a taxi coming from the opposite direction near the Pepsi Cola plant along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Concepcion Grande, Naga City, Sunday midnight.

A resident of Barangay Concepcion Grande, Malate was crossing the highway on his way home at about 12:45 a.m. Monday when he was hit by the vehicle.

The taxi, with Plate No. EVR-596, was driven by Flavio Sumayao Jr. of Sitio San Antonio, Barangay Penafrancia, Naga City.

A police report said the unknown vehicle who hit Malate sped away towards the direction of Pili. Camarines Sur.

Residents of the area came to his rescue but he died along the way to the hospital.

Police are now trying to find any lead to the identification of the suspect. (PNA)
